The Ultimate Gunblade…
OK, I know I just blogged about the wonders of the gunblade, but I still have another one to show you. Now this blade is also a prop from the Final Fantasy franchise, but, in my humble opinion, I think this is *Teh Pwnerer* of all gun blades right here. Yep. The Ultimate Gun Blade. What? Never heard of “Teh Pwnerer” before? *snort* Yeah, I’m a bad, bad, man… That’s right, don’t mess wit’ me or imma have to break out my GUNBLADE up in this mug…
Ya skeerd? Not buying it huh? Oh well. It was worth a try… I’ll bet you’d be skeerd if it you happened to meet Seifer Almasy in a dark ally… ‘Cause this here is his gunblade. I present:
Now at this juncture, I suppose you’ll be wanting me to actually qualify the opined ultimacy of this here gunblade. I would be extremely happy to oblige.
First, the hyperion blade is, imho, a much cooler design than Squall’s Gunblade. In contrast to the curved lines of Squalls gunblade, The Hyperion Gunblades transitional areas all seem to terminate in corners or wicked points. This gives it a much more sinister appearance. If you have been reading my blogs for any amount of time, you should have figured out that this is a great big plus in my book.
Now if that wasn’t enough, take a look at the type of firearm the blade is attached to. A pistol! Yes, ladies and germs, the Hyperion Gunblade is a giant sword with an automatic pistol attached, as opposed to Squalls gunblade, which is attached to a revolver. Now I have mentioned before that I am a fan of weapons in general, and firearms are no exception, so allow me to provide a little insight as to why I feel that a pistol-based Gunblade is a superior combat weapon. It is true that, from at least a zen perspective, a revolver might appear to be better, since they do not rely on large magazine springs or highly complex mechanisms, are simpler, more robustly designed and therefore generally more reliable.
HOWEVER, a pistol can generally carry more ammo than a revolver, (usually 50%-100+% more), can be designed for full automatic fire, and can be lighter and smaller than a revolver for any given caliber. I think these qualities outweigh the potential pitfalls, and make it a shoe-in for total combat dominance. Hence the “Ultimate” title. What? Don’t believe me? Look it up, buster. Don’t make me bust a cap in yo… Oww… that really hurt! Sheesh! No pinching!

wow i dont know what to say i think your just going too far its just a fictional weapon your whole story about ammo and springs…… oh and I suck seiffers cock
Dude, I’m into the mechanics of these things alright? gimme a break…
Oh and BTW, I got three words for you… TMI man, T. M. I. … ROFL
Wow. I have a friend who is a major FF nerd, and when I say major I mean it’s all he ever talks about, knows things square enix doesn’t know, the whole package, that kind of nerd. At some point while talking to him about his only two areas of expertise (FF and naruto) the gunblade came up in conversation. Now, in hearing the term “Gunblade” I had one picture in my mind: a mythical Sword with a gun attatched through either complex mechanical devices or perhaps duck tape, that you could use in multipurpose situations of varying range and lethality. What he explained was quite different. According to him* the gunblade is NOT (NOT[NOT]) a sword you can shoot people with. rather, the trigger on the gun part puts the weilder into some “super powers mode” or whatever.
Why? Why did the creators of this godly device have to make it so lame and predictable…
So untill this crazy-awesome testosterone spitting machine fulfills it’s actual purpose, I have to turn a blind eye to how crazy awesome cool it looks.
also, without the gun functionality the hilt-turned-grip seems very unweildly
*Be sure to take anything I say with a grain of salt, as my attention span is short as a hamster’s and my memory is shot save for TV quotes.
dude if you played ff8 you would see in the opening movie seiffer firing the gunblade so that friend of yours has to check his resources again and pyreblade your pathetic to modify my post
its obvious that your in too deep in this shit and you cant handle critisism
im dutch so excuse me for any faults i make
checked the movie again and he fired a fireball so my bad

… so wait, I was right O_O ? Wow even I didn’t think I was right XD

(After watching the video)
Well, yea, they did make a real working gunblade that actually shoots, but that was hand-made, the ones from FF don’t do that
(after watching the video again, this time with sound)
wait wait wait, did you happen to notice that the sound cut off just as he shot? seems a little odd to me…
(affter watching the video for a third time, freeze-framed at the point the gun “shot”)
As I suspected, I’m no gun specialist, but I don’t suspect a revolver of that size actually had a muzzle-fire of such magnitude, and on the topic of the muzzle-flash it seems more like fire fire than gun-shot fire.
Also, If you’re still not impressed, here is a comment left on this video by it’s creator:
“Thank you for the irrelevant information about FF8. It is a bottle rocket attatched to the blade, when lit, it fires. ”
Well I guess the first part is kind of irrelivent, I just copied the whole quote.
The real concept of a gunblade is’nt very far off, but for now, it still does not exist.
Also, I found this comment on the same video clarifying my previous statement of the trigger’s real purpose:
“…fyi the weapon in the game didnt fire anything out the barell the shot was used to send a vibration dwn the blade to add to the damage”
man Is youtube helpful ^-^
p.s. that smily up there was supposed to be an end parenthesys and I accidentally put a semi-colon in front
p.p.s. sorry to phyre for all the seperate replies, I think I have some kind of delayed thought process >_<
The End (I promise)

aah i see i already thought they filled the gun up with fireworks or something but its a nice start to a real gunblade
Hey Gregory, Indeed, I hate being wrong, but I do capitulate to well reasoned and informed criticism.
Your first post, on the other hand, actually had no corrections or any other constructive comment that I could discern. “The Rules” my friend. Read them.
But I see you have actually gone back and done your own research, and that I like to see, so no harm no foul…
Crosseyes… You’re killing me here with the multi-posts… LOL
My bad, from now on I’m waiting a manditory 7 min after writing and before posting anything, just in case I forget something.
NO MORE MULTI-POSTING!!
promise XD
and just so this post doesn’t violate any rules, I might as well make it productive:
One major problem I see with the gunblade design is that the blade seems to be right in front of the barrel. If a real model was to be made the blade or the gun barrel would have to be moved to the side, however that would affect balance to the point of uselessness…
I hate how complicated the specifics of this thing is, it’s such a Great concept. Damn reality always getting in the way >_<
No more, that’s it.

no prob your right i didnt read the rules i just thought of the gunblade as an final fantsy weapon i didnt know they where actually making replicas of the blade
@Crosseyes
There are actually many *real* gunblade designs that work well, with the gun barrel placed either on one side, and even in the spine of the blade. I will have to do a post about real “gun blades” one of these days… They are very interesting…
@Gregory
Indeed, they are making replicas of the FF gunblades, which, imho are actually not really true Gunblades. “GunBlades” were in existence long before Final Fantasy was but a gleam in The Square Company’s eye. And real live knife/gun combination weapons have been around for a very long time.
It’s always interesting to hear gamers talk about FF Gun blades as if that’s where the idea was invented. Just as a general reminder people, if that’s what you are in to, fine, but the reality is that there were real “Gunblades” long before the games, so I’m not going to waste much time arguing with anyone about their video game derived definition of “Gunblade”…
well if you can find one of those real blades im very eager too see it
If you like real gun blades here’s an interesting thread on the making of one that’s still in progress http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=552759
@Gregory Edicus
Alrighty then. Historical Gunblades is going on my ToDo list for post topics…
@Jared
Thanks for the link! That is very cool… Incidentally, that thread also has some very good pics of some of the historical gun blade combo designs I was referring to earlier… Thanks again!
Hey Crosseyes regarding your post saying “One major problem I see with the gunblade design is that the blade seems to be right in front of the barrel. If a real model was to be made the blade or the gun barrel would have to be moved to the side, however that would affect balance to the point of uselessness…”
I doubt there have been any good pictures of this in the game itself but there is actually a small hollow within the spine of the blade from the barrel of the revolver to about six inches from the tip where the blade for no apparent reason curves slightly down away from the spine (I have seen this design issue in the Final Fantasy game itself as well as in the Kingdom Hearts games when he makes an appearance holding his gunblade.) But the hollow tube is there for the transference and amplification of the vibration, and the ability to fire a bullet on the off chance that the wielder decides to load the darn thing.
And now for the end of something completely random!
If you read the Weapons Monthly magazines in the actual game I believe the March edition says that the gun part causes the blade to vibrate if the trigger is pulled at the correct time, doing extra damage. There is never mention of using the gunblade as an offensive weapon throughout the game.
Sorry, I meant ranged, not offensive. Damned silly weapon if it’s not offensive.
lol
I also noticed in the game that if you look real closely, Seifers gunblade actually has two blades with the barrel in between them. its hard to tell in game tho, the main thing i noticed is when he strikes, it shows 2 cut lines. as well as when hes holding the blade you can just see that there are two blades. its difficult to tell tho.
dude, I can appreciate your arguments for a gunblade using a pistol, however, if you get up past a certain caliber with a pistol you either mess up the inner workings, or the damn thing blows up in your fucking face. a revolver can handle any caliber, ANY!!! I think that the whole concept of a gunblade with either weapon is really cool, but I would definently take a revolver gunblade over a pistol gunblade any day. no offense.
I’ve read comments about the gunblade not actually being used as a ranged weapon, however there is official artwork/pictures which show Squall’s gunblade case open with six bullets laid in the foam, and when you pull the trigger when fighting, there is an explosion among the visible slash of the blade. I understand and appreciate the idea of the blade vibrating when the trigger is pulled, so therefore the bullets in the case and the explosion seem to be of no value. Is this something Square simply did not think through or are they trying to confuse us all? If the latter is the case, they’ve done a very good job! *shakes fist at unexplained stuff*
