It's not big enough to be used as a full body shield, but it's not small enough to be maneuvered quickly either. So unless you happen to be Cloud, Squall, Sephiroth, etc. and have superhuman strength, I'm not sure this would necessarily be the kind of blade to take into a gunbattle... Think about it, a metal plate that size can stop a bullet unless it is a really strong armor piercing bullet or can somehow phase past the metal and hit its intended target. In a way no swordsman is without protection even if he wears a cool leather outfit instead of full body armor.
