Amazing Transforming Busters!
It wasn’t too long ago that I blogged about Cloud Strife of the Final Fantasy world and his huge Buster Sword. I happened to know that an animated movie had been made about the series, called Final Fantasy VII: Advents Children. But what I was not aware of, was that “improvements” that had been made to Clouds Buster for this installment. I was rather speechless at what I found. Here, for your viewing pleasure is the new and improved Buster Sword from Final Fantasy VII: Advents Children…
Now this sword is a doozy. This buster is significantly larger than the original already ginormous Buster, at 44in long, 7in wide and 1.5in thick. But not only is is larger than the original buster, in every dimension, but is actually 4 swords in one! This sword (or combination thereof) is a good 15 lbs of Cloud Busting steel! Talk about overkill!
Now I’m sure that with the kind of strength that the main characters of the final fantasy universe possess, swords like these would still be practical to wield in battle, however it does beg the question: Under what circumstances would having 4 regular sized swords be better than having one devastatingly large one, especially if you have only two arms to wield them with? Things that make you go “Hmmm…”
Regardless, the idea behind this weapon and the way it was put together is very original, and looking at the various individual swords and the amazing fit and finish, at least based on the graphics provided, is dynamic weapon art at its best. You can even see the attention to detail in the design and implementation of the built in guards on the two folding swords. A very unique and interesting piece. I totally want one…

Yeah, these got sold out very, very quickly. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find one since i wrote this post. I imagine they all got bought pretty fast, and since there were only a limited run made, have entered the realm of the highly sought after collectors item… Haven’t been able to find one since, in spite of looking high and low for it…
wow that is sweet man so dame cool

actualy being able to weild something that big is impossible unless you where supper human or a demon. But im guessing the way it all locks together is accurate slots (much like a crossbow bolt in a crossbow) and magnitism
The 6-piece sword isnt the buster sword. In Advent Children, Cloud stands at Zacks grave where the Buster Sword stands in the ground. Besides the Buster Sword has 2 holes in it and the 6 piece one doesnt…
My friend and I actually bought the sword pictured from a local imports shop and its fairly small scale model missing some very important pieces and functions (the smallest pair on the side dont unfold, you have to unscrew the peices) while it is hard to tell in this picture, the back edge actually is a blade so it does hold true there. The actual given name for the sword is the “Combined Sword” and a functional full size version of it was created from the concept art from the movie and is now hanging up in display.
this is concept art from the FFVII crew

Hey Hiro,
Thanks for the info, I’ve had quite a few people tell me this isn’t the “Buster” sword, even when differentiated from the original by referring to it as the “AC Buster Sword”, though I think you are the first to actually provide an alternate name… Though I think I’m still gonna call it the “Combined Buster Sword”… The “Combined Sword” just doesn’t sound as cool…
And yeah, exact accuracy is often difficult (read “expensive”) so few cutlery shops really try to go for the gold in that respect… It’s a pity..
Aren’t neodymium magnets a bit dangerous when combined with large, pointy and possibly sharpened pieces of steel ? I mean it shouldn’t pose a problem to the designer and builder of the sword and implicitly its mechanisms, but I wouldn’t trust the aforementioned sword to any guy that played the game and wants an exact replica. What I’m trying to say is that every time I picture this behemoth in a real-life situation, I can’t help but imagine a guy trying to pull one of the inner swords from their magnetized “sheaths”, which of course could lead to terrible accidents. I actually like this “lesser” sword replica because it’s clearly a hard and tedious process to build and also wield this kind of portable armory, so its creators are really not to be blamed, but commended for their initiative and ingenuity. In fact, I remember seeing a video on youtube not too long ago about some guys that forged an exact replica of the original Buster Sword and it was a burden just to hold it up in a decent battle-like position. A good idea would probably be for these huge swords (like the FF series or Berserk anime) to be crafted from some other kind of softer but lighter metal or alloy. Because let’s be serious, the word “battle-ready” is laughable to say the least when talking about these beasts.
By the way, I just found this blog and I absolutely love it. Cheers.

Hey Khazgoroth,
Yes, handling raw neodymium magnets can in fact be dangerous, however in a practical application like this one, the dangers could ideally be engineered out of the practical mechanics of the design. It would probably be the most dangerous for the people constructing the weapon, than it would be for those using it…
And about light weight swords, the first post of this thread, Sinza suggested Titanium, which I do think would be an excellent idea for a replica monster sword…
How to buy it? and how much it cost?
Hey Raymond,
Yea, I think most folks realize this isn’t the original Buster sword, however, I think the Term “Buster Sword” has become the generic term for any oversized sword Cloud wields. So in the absence of any uniques specific name, I think it is safe to call this a “Buster” sword…
