A Mini Ninja Tool Kit.
And just in case you are wondering, no, I am not talking about a tool kit for little ninjas. Though, as a side note, I am sure they do exist and are just as deadly as their larger counterparts. But no, they will not be the topic of today’s post. Rather I will be talking about ninja weapons. I’m sure you have all seen those gazillion piece ninja sword sets, that have hira shuriken in the guards, small knives, throwing spikes, and blinding powder in the saya, etc. etc, etc. Well, today I ran into a small scale version of that kit. the Ninja Battle Tanto set:
Yessiree, everything the aspiring ninja might need for a little clandestine action, all in an ultra mobile, compact form factor. Now technically, I think it is inaccurate to call this a “battle” set, since to my knowledge, Ninjas are not traditionally known to engage in “battle” in a traditional sense. They were more the special forces/guerrilla type, experts in asymmetrical warfare. So I prefer to call this the Ninja “tool kit”
And it’s got lots of cool tools. in addition to the cool little jet black, full tang tanto, with a push dagger hidden in the pommel, it’s got a sweet little sheath that holds three bo shuriken, and a small compartment for Tashibishi (aka Caltrops) that could be thrown on the ground to dissuade any pursuers eager to expedite your demise at the completion of a mission.
To be honest, I’m not a big fan of excessive amalgamated accessorization. Putting too many things in one place can cause problems. I can see those bo shuriken getting caught on things as you walked by, maybe even interfering with the deployment of the knife, so I’d probably find a better less snag-likely place to put them. And the same goes for the caltrops box. It’s a cool idea, but I think it would hinder any kind of low profile knife carry. It would also get relocated.
However the push dagger in the grip ois a nice touch, and I really do like the profile of the blade on this tanto. It has the traditional tanto profile, with a false edge which would give it a great combination of both cutting and thrusting ability. Pretty cool design. So, Do a little trimming and relocation of the sheath accessories, and Voila! A nice little ninja EDC kit.
Just the kind of thing any enterprising ninja might need.

Okay I had to make an account just for this (I’ve been a fan of the site for months now though) I actually have this knife, and I gotta say I love it! I use it a lot and have never had any problem with snagging and in fact the only problem I have had is one of the bo shuriken falls out, so a black rubber band fixes that right up! And I would be happy to provide you with any more pictures of it you would like. Oh and as for the mini push dagger, it’s awesome. I can actually pull it out and hid it in my hand before actually needing it, then when I do pull the Tanto out and I have a knife and something much better then Brass Knuckles.
Ah.. Interesting. I am actually not suprised about the bo shuriken falling out. I would probably not have used that particular design if i were going to do that.
BTW, How do you wear it? And do you ever find your hand hitting the shuriken when you are reaching for the knife?
Dang it, I left a huge reply and it doesn’t show it -_-
EDIT: Okay, I don’t think you can put links, which is annoying so yeah, you’re going to have to replace the DOT come with . come and such.
Well anyway the Bo Shuriken falling out can be fixed with a simple rubber band. And as for wearing it the belt loop actually goes all the way to just behind the pommel and fits rather comfortably on my side. And I don’t remember ever having hitting the Bo Shuriken with my hand because when I go to draw it I undo the snap with my thumb, but I’ll try to tell if I do in the future.
And let me make a quick note that the push dagger is awesome. I have a pretty big hand because I’m 6’2″ and I was worried about it cutting me, but that has never happened and in fact it fits so well that I almost like it better then the knife itself just do to the sure awesomeness of this dagger.
Here is a picture of it on my side:

This is a picture of how I draw it (its a bit awkward due to I had to take the picture with my other hang)

I hope this helped/answered you question and I will try to comment on any of my other weapons you review (I have ten swords) and I love this site.
What the heck? That is so weird, I thought I made them all DOT com and such, and I didn’t and it still worked? Odd considering that was the third time I posted that and NOW the comment is awaiting moderation! Well, sorry for the hassle.
Hey Hat,
Thanks for the Pics! they actually illustrate the very problems I was thinking I would have, not necessarily with the snagging, however that top bo-shuriken seems to be sitting right in front of the grip blade. Which one of the bo-shuriken keeps falling out? I’m willing to bet it is a byproduct of how and where they have been attached to the sheath…
P.S.
For future reference, you can go ahead and submit post with links in them, just be patient if it does not show it immediately, since posts with links generally go to the moderation queue first.
First off about being patient I normally am, it just normally says if it’s on queue or not and the first three times it didn’t show it at all, sorry about that.
And the one that falls out is the one that is up highest on the sheath, however the only other problem with them is that they other two don’t fall out because of the snap, they’re lower then it so they’re under it while the top one is over it and it doesn’t stop you from undoing the clasp at all that is simply the only reason why it falls out, however the other two are quite hard and the middle one near imposable to pull out while the clasp is together.
Sorry if that was a bit hard to figure out what I was saying, there was someone rushing me while I wrote it.
Hey No problem, I was just curious. What you describe is exactly the kind of problem I was thinking there might be with that design…
Thanks!
Any time, and yeah you’re quite right those problems are a bit annoying. However all in all it is a great knife. Oh, but the Caltrops are annoying as heck to put back, you have to stack all ten of them up perfectly or the little door wont close, I completely forgot about that until just now haha, well all in all I still recommend this knife simply because for $20 I’d say the knife and push dagger are worth it.
There’s a line in the description that reads “Opening with a the click of a snap, the caltrops are instantly in hand and ready for use.”
Ignoring the out of place “a”, what do you think “click of a snap” means? Do you…snap it open and it clicks? Or…does it snap open when…you click…uh…it?
TheHat! How do you open the compartment?!
Also, I do like how the knife looks. How does the handle feel? I had to look up what ABS is (what the grip is made of), and on Wikipedia the final line states “ABS is flammable when it is exposed to high temperatures, such as a wood fire. It will “boil”, then burst spectacularly into intense, hot flames.” Sounds like another way to dispatch a victim to me :p
Well it’s a little box with a plastic leather feeling flap over it with a snap on it to keep it closed

http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k79/theratking2006/IMG_0124.jpg
And as for the grip the ripples of it make it fit nicely into your hand, though it looks a bit like plastic it doesn’t feel that way.
I hope it helps, if you have any other questions I check this site every time the RSS feed says there’s a new post.
just gimme the knife ill make a fresh sheath lol
“opening with a click of the snap…” that’s an interesting description right there… ROFLAMO…
Thaks for more great pics Hat!
@Mozza
That’s what I was thinking…
Any time regarding pictures =] and I was about to say something witty about snap clicking, and then I opened it and the snap closes with a snap, which I found ironic haha.
And yeah I can see a different sheath being nice because unless you actually use the other stuff why bother carrying it, but for me I find no problem with it.
i could use that push dagger idea though
hmmmmmm
pluss i would use them, were they better made and more securely stored
The push dagger actually isn’t part of the sheath, it’s in the back (Bottom? Butt?) of the knife’s handle.
i never implied it was part of the sheath i merely said i could use the idea
but yes butt or pommel would be correct
